Waterproofing is a great way to protect your home. Don't get us wrong we don't say every house needs waterproofing because it's been poorly build or anything along thouse lines. However Water is Water, and it usually finds a way, now since your Basement is a lowest point of your home, this place is usually first to see water leakage. Water in basement can be caused by few things, from Weeping Tiles not performing there job and not removing underground water from the foundation wall, to a crack that developed in the foundation wall.
At The Toronto Plumber .CA we understand the importantce of having a well protected basement especially for home owners which live in lower elevation areas where during heavy rainfalls or snow melting there is significant amount of unground water. Not only that, but un-fixed water leakage in the basement or constatly wet basement is a breeding ground for mold which is a very dangerous things to a people and our pet's life.
As plumbing professionals and homeonwers ourselfs we at The Toronto Plumber .CA pride ourselfs in doing out job, as such we assess each homeonwers waterproofing needs on person-too-person bases, each case is unique.
Waterproofing can be done both Internally and Externally. So what is the diffence?
Internal/Interior Waterproofing
If you have unfinished basement a Tar coating is applied to the walls around the perimier, each wall is also inspected for cracks. If cracks are found they are patched up and then there is a layer of Tar that is applied. After the Tar has been applied a Waterproofed membrane is installed. Now, if you have a finished basement same procedure is performed, but walls are opened up to perform all needed Waterproofing work at hand.
External/Exterior Waterproofing
Like Internal/Interor Waterproofing the Exterior is performed in the similar matter. Depending where Waterproofing is required a excavation crew excavates an area around the house. Once the needed area or at times whole house foundation walls are excavated all needed cracks are patched up and a layer of Tar is applied onto the walls. Once the cracks are fixed, Tar is applied and the Waterproofed membrane is installed we go ahead with installing Weeping tiles and connecting them to appropriate drainge system, then the Weeping tiles are covered with a layer of gravel and then the whole excavated area is back filled.
